The Vessel - Masks: A New Generation Playbook

A power dwells inside you, a power that is not wholly your own. You and this power have had an uneasy peace punctuated by bouts of dangerous flare ups. Now that you’ve put on a mask, stepped up to fight, these flare ups are growing more numerous, more dangerous. Can you tame the power before it takes you over in full?

 The Vessel's themes center around darker dramatic elements of teen and heroic dramas, surrounding depression, emotional control, imposter syndrome and anxiety through the classic lens of super heroes like Venom, Jean Gray or similar characters. A power dwells inside you, either a creation of your own or some entity that has made its home within you. You've gained terrible powers through this but the Power doesn't like you much. It likes your friends less. Learning to control it, before it controls you to do terrible things, is central to The Vessel's drama.

These powers, and the Power that has some sway over you, is encapsulated by the Extra Mechanic Hold Back The Tide. Your Power has its own Relationship questions to answer during character creation to flesh out its own views on the world around you, and acts almost as an NPC with deep Influence Mechanics. Juggling the Power's Influence is vital to the Vessel, gaining great powers while they have it and growing dangerous when they don't.

The Vessel is inspired by the characters mentioned above as well as Misaka Mokoto from A Certain Scientific Railgun, Izumi Shinichi from the manga Parasye and The Darkness found in the Top Cow Universe.
