The Tactician - Masks: A New Generation Playbook

You’ve always had a knack for knowing how things were going to turn out, either because of careful planning or your unique powers. Hoping for an outcome doesn’t always mean knowing the right steps to the conclusion however and your missteps put more than just you in danger.

 The Tactician's themes are all about being the most prepared person in the room, the person with a plan, the one everyone looks to when things go south or just when they need a killer party today, on short notice. The Tactician's plans don't always go the way they want however, and a great deal of their drama is dealing with the fact that perhaps being so prepared might actually just be anxiety or a method to gain control when nothing else in their life seems stable.

The Tactician breaks from many Playbooks in Masks in that it has no Playbook Moves of its own. Instead, to enforce the narrative that they are adaptable and mercurial with their plans, The Tactician can access every printed Playbook Move the table has access to through their Extra Mechanic The Best Laid Plans. This Mechanic allows Tacticians to choose three Moves at the start of a Session, with a chance that the GM or even other Players might get to select moves for them. During play, the Tactician can set up gambits and plans, putting these Moves on the line. When a plan works, they get Hold, allowing them to change Moves out on the fly but when their plans fail? The GM has a chance to change Moves themselves. The system is quite deep and complex and as such, we've provided several further resources and a expanded GM advice section for this Playbook.

The Tactician is inspired by character such as Oracle from the DC Universe, Cyclops from the Marvel Universe, Izuku Midoriya from My Hero Academia and the Straw Hat's own Helmsman Jinbe, First Son of the Sea.
