The Ranger - Masks: A New Generation Playbook

You were part of another hero group to whom image was everything. It was a good gig but then things got weird. You’ve struck out on your own now. It’s just you, your mask and your freaking huge robot. You’re looking for a place to call your own, a way to knock the dust off your mech and maybe break out of the mold your old squad left you in.

 The Ranger's themes fall on Mean Girl inter-party conflict, preconcieved expectations and learning to grow into a healthy self image and self esteem. The Ranger was part of a former group but something created a rift and now they're on their own, with a new team that is much looser and eager to accept them for who they are. Being your own person is hard, especially when former friends call on you to return to who you once were. As the saying goes, people only remember the version of you they had the most power over.

The Ranger was part of a former group and while they've broken away, the world still can't seem to get it through their heads that the Ranger is their own person now. The Ranger must deal with the preconceptions of the masses while navigating their own newfound freedom through the Image Problems mechanic. While they do this, they gain new powers, abilities and moves each time they hit a benchmark as they move into their own image.

The Ranger is inspired by classic Tokusatsu genre made famous by Power Ranger and Kamen Rider, but also influenced and inspired by the Magic Girl genre and Sailor Moon specifically.
